Gift of Love International Adoptions, Inc. has been working in
Vietnam since 2000. Vietnam adoptions closed to United States
families in 2002. During the closure we remained involved in
humanitarian projects, under
For the Children, with Hoa Binh Province Social Protection
Center.
The
Agreement Between the
United States of America and the Socialist Republic if Vietnam
Regarding Cooperation on the Adoption of Children on
June 25, 2005.
Following signature of the Agreement, commonly known as the MOU (Memorandum Of
Understanding), the newly established Department of
International Adoption (DIA) in Vietnam began accepting
applications from Adoption Service Providers in the Fall
of 2005, to become licensed to work in Vietnam under the MOU.

Monique Zhao, Agency
Director and Beth Schoeppner, Adoption Case Manager completing
the application process.
Gift of Love International Adoptions, Inc. (GOLVietnam) received
our
license on July 24, 2006.

GOLVietnam representative
Ms. Tran with DIA Director Mr. Long and the GOLVietnam license.
Due
to the overwhelming interest and growth of the Vietnam Program
in the first year of licensure, effective June 7, 2007,
all families who apply or have approved applications on file
will be placed on a waiting list for registration.
Families on the waiting list will be informed when they are able
to proceed with official registration and commencement of the
adoption process in Vietnam.
For questions on becoming an
approved family on the waiting list, or if you have questions
about your status as a current family on the waiting list,
please feel free to
e-mail or call us at any time.

NOTE: Updated referral
information will not automatically result in the acceptance of
an equal number of new waiting families to register for the
program. The timeframe for waiting list families to be
able to register is not predictable at this time and each
waiting list family will be informed, on a case-by-case basis,
of any movement forward of their # standing or their opportunity
to register, at the appropriate time. It is likely that
we will not open registrations until sometime in 2008, after
the MOU has been renewed.

NOTE:
Wait times for referral
and referral to travel for the Vietnam program are NOT predictable and
are continually changing. The wait times listed are NOT guarantees or
predictors of the specific wait time that you will
experience
for your adoption. Wait times are generally dependant
on the following factors: how many families have submitted their dossier before you, what
age-range and gender you have requested, if you are open to
a special needs referral, and when children come available for adoption.
Children Available
Children that are orphaned or abandoned with appropriate “Orphan
Status” are eligible to be adopted in Vietnam. Children
available for adoption are typically from single mothers who
have relinquished parental rights. A letter of relinquishment
will be provided to the perspective adoptive parents. Both boys
and girls ages newborn to 15 years old are available for
adoption. If your adopted child is over nine years old, the
child must consent to the adoption in writing.
Parental Eligibility Requirements
-
Married couples and
singles
-
Prospective Adoptive
Parents must be at least 25 years old and be at least 20 years
older than the child(ren) they wish to adopt.
-

-
Prospective adoptive parents must be in generally good
health.
Travel
Families
travel to Hanoi where they are met by Gift of Love International
Adoptions, Inc. in-country staff and translators. Families stay
in Hanoi to complete adoption procedures and paperwork,
traveling to Hoa Binh to attend the “Giving and Receiving”
ceremony. Following the “G & R” families await the completion
of Vietnamese adoption documents, including the child’s
passport, to then complete your child’s US visa medical exam and
interview at the US Embassy in Hanoi. Our staff will assist you
by managing paperwork with the Vietnamese governmental agencies
from dossier submission at the Department of International
Adoption (DIA) thru referral and travel.
Post-Adoption
-
Mandatory
post-adoption reports by a caseworker at 30-days, 6-months and
12-months home.
-
Mandatory
family reports at 18-months, 24-months, 30-months, 36-months.
-
Mandatory
