Gift of Love International Adoptions, Inc.
has been working in Guatemala since 2005. Families will
receive a referral of a child in foster care. Foster
families are located in Guatemala City.
Effective
May 1, 2007
Gift of Love International Adoptions will put a
precautionary policy in place regarding interested family
applications for Guatemala. Because the future of Guatemala
adoptions is uncertain, following the US Ratification of the
Hague Convention in early 2008:
-
We WILL
continue to accept your Application for Adoption
and, if approved, will add your family to a waiting list
of interested families.
-
We WILL NOT
register any new Guatemala program families until after
more is known about the future of Guatemalan adoption in
2007 or 2008.
Children Available
Children
available for adoption are primarily single children, ages
newborn to 24 months. Some older children may also be
available. Biologically related children, meaning twins or
siblings may also be adopted. Couples interested in special
needs children can request to be open to the referral of a
child with special needs.
Parental Eligibility Requirements
-
Married couples and single heterosexual females.
-
Prospective adoptive parents must be between the ages of
25-55 years old.
-
Prospective adoptive parents must be in generally good
health.
-
Prospective adoptive parents must have a minimum,
combined annual income of $30,000.
Travel
After
you accept your referral you will receive monthly updates
with medical checkup results and routine medical care and
vaccinations for your child. Guatemala does not require the
family to travel to the country but it is highly suggested.
After the referral of your child the adoption processing
begins in Guatemala. During this time a visit to Guatemala
is highly recommended as you can meet and visit with your
child. This trip, by both parents, prior to the
finalization of the foreign adoption will automatically
qualify your child for U.S. Citizenship upon arrival in the
U.S.
