Our Mission
Our mission is, through adoption, to give children from
around the world the gift of a forever family, with stable,
caring parents who can provide them a happy and loving home.
Believing all children are a gift, they deserve nurturing
parents, whether biological or adoptive, who will give them
the opportunity to grow and blossom as a member of a family.
Our History
Gift of Love International Adoptions, Inc. is a private,
non-profit, licensed child-placing registered in the State
of Iowa and is certified by the Internal Revenue Service as
a 501(c) 3 organization.
Gift of Love International Adoptions, Inc. began its journey
to serve children and families through intercountry adoption
in 1994. Since that time we have overseen the placement of
hundreds of orphaned and abandoned children with families
throughout the United States through our intercountry
adoption programs in China, Guatemala, Kazakhstan, Russia,
Ukraine and Vietnam.
Our Strengths
Our expertise IS intercountry adoption. We work closely
with all intercountry government offices for the children
and our adoptive families. We are small enough to be able
to offer prospective adoptive parents professional and
personable attention throughout the process, but large
enough to know and understand the detailed and sometimes
complex workings of inter-governmental laws, regulations,
requirements, procedures and processes within intercountry
adoption.
For the Children
- Our mission serves the children first, while as your
partner in the intercountry adoption journey, assisting YOU
to bring YOUR child home. Additionally, knowing that not
all prospective adoptive parents wish to adopt from one
particular country nor that all prospective adoptive parents
will fit the eligibility criteria for any specific program
country, Gift of Love International Adoption, Inc.’s
intercountry adoption program options have grown and now
include China (1994), Russia (1994), Ukraine (2000)
Kazakhstan (2003), and Vietnam (2000 and 2006).
Education
– Education is paramount to being prepared in the best
possible way to welcome your child home and understanding
that adoption is a lifelong experience. Gift of Love
International Adoptions, Inc. feels strongly about educating
prospective adoptive parents about all areas of the adoption
process, the intercountry adoption program, and what to be
prepared for coming home, and over the years as they grow.
Gift of Love International Adoptions, Inc. has invested much
time and passion into the creation of a comprehensive
educational curriculum for all prospective adoptive parents
that walk with Gift of Love International Adoptions, Inc. on
YOUR adoption journey. Within our service plan, Gift of
Love international Adoptions, Inc. will provide you with a
minimum of 10 hours of education, as required by
The Hague Convention on Protection of Children and
Cooperation in Respect of Intercountry Adoption
as well as pre- and post-adoption education and
support. In addition, Gift of Love International Adoptions,
Inc.’s staff actively involved in community education with
about adoption issues, both domestic and international
adoptions. As an example, staff from Gift of Love
International Adoptions, Inc. teach a class through Des
Moines Public Schools Community Education called
“If You’re Thinking about Adoption” which
covers all adoption options available to Iowa families.
Diplomacy
- Through our years of working in the intercountry program
countries, we have established strong, professional working
relationships with our foreign supervised providers,
intercountry adoption officials and offices, and other key
individuals and offices that assist in the processing of
your intercountry adoption. We strictly adhere to the rules
and regulations established by the US government and each
intercountry adoption program. Our role, in supporting you
though our professional and personable services, is to be
your partner and hold your hand while navigating all of the
steps you will take along YOUR adoption journey. We are
working on your behalf and our goal is to make your dreams
of parenthood a reality. To do this, we need you to be
completely open and honest with us and discuss any fears or
concerns you may have.
Ethics
- Our commitment to you is a straightforward and honest
approach to all aspects of YOUR adoption journey. You will
be informed of any and all events occurring within the
program, as a whole, and for your adoption specifically, as
those changes are reported from the intercountry adoption
program or involved offices or representatives. We strive to
ensure that every process and procedure that is completed is
done in the best interest of the child, first, and the
adoptive family, by following all of the rules and
regulations set forth by all involved parties.
